Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram MD, MPH, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram (affectionately known as Dr. AK) received training in interventional cardiology at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland (Ohio, United States), which is ranked number 1 since 1995. He is part of a very limited group of American board-certified interventional cardiologists in India who have carried out several PCIs. He performs the most intricate angioplasties, such as Chronic Total Occlusion PCI. His rate of success in these procedures is one of the highest in the domain backed by a flawless safety record. Furthermore, he received training in structural interventions and peripheral angioplasties at the Cleveland Clinic.

What is CTO?

Chronic total occlusions are characterised by complete blocking of arteries by the formation of plaque. These arteries can remain blocked even for several months.

What is PCI?

The blocked arteries can be opened up with a minimally invasive method known as Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI, previously called as angioplasty with stent).

How to pick a Cardiologist?

One should feel at ease and establish a good understanding with the doctor. In its absence, it would be almost impossible to forge a patient-doctor bond.

Dr. Kalyanasundaram is very professional, empathetic, honest and extremely diligent. He not only placed a stent in a very important artery to my husband's heart but discovered a shadow in my husband's lung beforehand. It was discovered that my husband has stage two lung cancer and had this gone undetected, who knows what the outcome may have been. He is extremely caring towards his patients and their families. Dr. "K" cleared a blockage that was in front of the first stent I had placed in Dec. 2015. Due to the location my original cardiologist referred me to him. I found Dr. "K" to be upfront as to what might or might not happen, he took time to address my questions and after the procedure when I had a bad reaction to the contrast dye, he came to my hospital room to follow up and make sure I was alright after being given medication to control the hives. I wish he was my doctor all the time!
